Bonjour

Underline the noun phrases in the following sentences.

un groupe nominal (noun phrase) peut être sujet, complément, ou  COD.

- a relative clause (PSR)

- a gerund (gérondif)

- infinitive

Tennis is a nice game = tennis is a noun

playing tennis is  a nice game = playing tennis is a noun phrase

1 His mother wished to speak to the principal.

2 The students who rioted were punished.

The students who rioted  = noun phrase

 who rioted = noun clause

3 The dog whose tail was cut is dead.

quand l'antécedent est compris = noun phrase

attention ==>

whose tail was cut  =  juste la PSR  noun clause

4 The stolen car has been found.

5 The winning football team celebrated their victory / with a big party.

3 noun phrases = subject / direct object / complement

6 Those houses are very expensive. (very expensive is a subject complement mais aussi un noun phrase puiqu'il est précédé de "very")

7 My close friend went to Nigeria.

8 The neighbour's dog is well-trained.

(pas de "modifier" pour "well-trained")

9 I like singing in the bath.

10 All those children go to school here.

to school here. = pas sûr du tout que le modifier" here" soit suffisant pour que ce soit un noun phrase. C'est plutôt an "adverbial phrase"

le fait qu'il y ait "here"  peut peut-être le transformer en noun phrase ...
