La Grande-Motte, a commune in the Hérault département in southern France, is known for its homogeneous architecture, with many prominent buildings in the shape of pyramids. The city was built in the 1960s and 1970s by architect Jean Balladur on a marshy wasteland, and its pyramid residences are inspired by Mexico's Pre-Columbian temples and the sea. The city's name, which translates to "The Big Mound", refers to the sand dunes that were on the site before it was established in 1958.

In 2010, the city was awarded the label "Patrimoine du XX e siècle" by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. As of 2021, the city has a population of 8,573 and is part of the "Le Pays de l'Or" agglomeration and the Montpellier area of attraction.
