Agatha Christie was a famous writer of detective stories. She was born on September 15, 1890, in the southwest part of England . Her mother taught her at home, so she did not go to school. At the age of sixteen, she moved to Paris to study music. In 1914, Agatha Christie married Archibald Christie, a pilot . They had a daughter, Rosalind. During World War I, she worked as a nurse and wrote her first book. In 1920, she published her first novel, introducing readers to one of her most famous characters, Belgian detective Hercule Poirot . Agatha Christie's first husband left her for another woman in 1928. In 1926, Agatha's mother died. Agatha Christie and Archibald Christie divorced in 1928 . In 1930, she married archaeology professor Max Mallowan. She wrote more than twenty detective novels with him on some of his expeditions. Agatha Christie became the "Queen of Crime" and her books became films . She died on January 12, 1976, in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
