The constable *** (patrol) the street and he ***
(check) an alley when suddenly a man *** (come) out
of a pub. He *** (not wear) his hat and he *** (not
walk) straight. When he *** (see) the constable, he
*** (run) away. The constable *** (call) his colleagues
who *** (walk) in the streets nearby. They *** (arrive
immediately, but they *** (not find) the man.

Conjugue le verbe au prétérit qui convient.

prétérit simple = pour une action passée, terminée et courte

prétérit en Be + V-ing= pour unz zction passée qui était en cours au moment des faits

The constable was patrolling (patrol) the street and he was checking

(check) an alley when suddenly a man came (come) out of a pub. He wasn't wearing (not wear) his hat and he wasn't walking (not walk) straight. When he saw (see) the constable, he ran away. The constable  called (call) his colleagues who were walking (walk) in the streets nearby. They arrived (arrive) immediately, but they didn't find (not find) the man.
