In 1955, Rosa Parks, a coloured woman refused to give up her seat to a white person in a segregated bus. She was arrested and given a fourteen dollar fine and sent to jail. Her arrest sparked a succesful bus boycott led by Martin Luther King and led to the end of segregation in 1965 with the voting Rights Act.
