When his followers were shot by British
soldiers, Gandhi always told them not to
shoot back.
Under apartheid, the whites in
South Africa killed thousands of black; but
Nelson Mandela, when he became the first
black President of South Africa, told black
people to use no violence against whites.
In America, Martin Luther King told
his followers that when violence was used
against them, they should reply, not with
violence, but with 'soul force'. His dream
was to achieve freedom without violence.
