Dear Akari
Ca
Thank you for your email! How are you?
I got a great dog! I really liked how
Hachiko was a good friend and always
waited for Ueno at the station. It was so
sad when Ueno didn't come home and
Hachiko kept waiting for him at the
station. I always wanted a dog that loved
me like that! Now I want to watch the
American film about Hachiko. I read on
the Internet that they didn't make the
film in Japan, but in America. I think
that's okay, because the story is the
same. Can you tell me some more
Japanese comic books to read?
Take care

The story of Hachiko the dog is a beautiful one. Ueno, a professor at
university wanted to get an Akita dog. One
of his students told him to
adopt Hachiko. They soon became friends.
Every morning, Hachiko went to
the station with Ueno where he got on the train
to go to
university Every afternoon, Hachiko walked
to the station,
waited for Ueno to come back and they went
back home
together
Sadly, one day in 1925 Ueno died at the university. Hachiko
went to the station and waited, but his friend never came
home. Hachiko missed his friend and went to the station
every day to wait for him. He did this every day for
nearly ten years until he died at age 11. He
became famous in Japan and people even took
food to the station for him.
Hachiko is a national hero to the Japanese! He
has his own bronze statue next to Shibuya Train
Station in Tokyo, where every day hundreds of
people have their photograph taken with
him. There are lots of books, two films,
and a comic book about his story.
